CANADA hearts Take That... N-O-T!
Is Winehouse going to Take That name-calling?
Troubled singer Amy Winehouse is the apparent subject of a song by Brit pop stars Take That. In North America, British boy band Take That are possibly best known as the group where crooner Robbie Williams spent his formative years, pre-solo career. But the pop ensemble (now sans Williams) are in the press for an even more controversial contribution to pop culture -- they've written a new song that allegedly criticizes troubled singer Amy Winehouse.
How Did it Come to This is about “a girl in Camden Town” who is “slightly schizophrenic” and “slightly OCD.” Ever the graceful veterans of pop fame, they offer the unnammed lady handy advice about how to recognize self-destruction (“Have you turned on your TV?/ Have you seen reality?”)
The band, who brought the world such hits as Back For Good and a cover of the the Bee Gees' How Deep Is Your Love , will release their new album The Circus, on Dec. 1. How convenient that Britney Spears's suspiciously similarly titled Circus comes out Dec. 2!
Are the Take That boys social commentators, desperate leeches eager to benefit from Spears's and Winehouse's infamy, or merely celebrity obsessed, just everyone else? Perhaps the answer is D: All of the above.
