Take That ‘The Circus’ (Polydor)
Quite simply the best album they’ve made, featuring the best songs Barlow has ever written and, amazingly, a bloody fantastic one about Winehouse by Jason Orange! We get a bit emotional just thinking about how well Take That have done since the reunion and The Circus is the extremely nice icing on the top of a ruddy marvellous cake. *********
Britney Spears ‘Circus’ (Sony)
We thought it might feel ok to listen to a Britney record again, now she’s (sort of) better, but it doesn’t. Still ploughing the electropop furrow, ‘Circus’ sounds incredibly dated and we’re utterly sick of hearing her whole “I’m a sex robot who lives in a bubble of publicity” shtick. And she was shit on X Factor. ******
Same Difference ‘Pop’ (BMG)
For anyone who wanted a fourth Steps album or, more accurately, a second H&Claire album. We feel a bit funny for even listening to it, but it’s really not too bad and contains the third best version of the best song Stock Aitken & Waterman ever wrote. *******
Glasvegas ‘A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss)’ (Columbia)
Ambitious, sincere and loving contribution to the Christmas album tradition and, fascinatingly, a better set of songs than on their recent debut album. Perhaps this is the way to go for Glasvegas and an Easter album should follow. We used to sing carols at Easter, you know? And when we say ‘we’, we mean the nation not the 4music staff. ******
Sheesh even Same Difference got a higher rating than Britney and their album is like a High School Musical style cringey cheesy type thing if that makes sense!!!
